Smart Start of Forsyth County, Inc.
Presenter: Catherine Burke Preschoolers across our nation are being expelled or suspended from their early education programs at an alarming rate due to challenging behavior. So alarming, that the US DHHS and US Department of Education wrote a joint policy statement with recommendations for states and early education programs to reduce (and eventually eliminate) preschool suspension and expulsion. One of these recommendations is to promote children's social-emotional and behavioral health. Classrooms that promote social-emotional and behavioral health through mindfulness proactively address challenging behavior by teaching children the skills they need to productively experience and express strong emotions. In this workshop, participants will learn how to bring mindfulness to their classrooms through practice and creativity and even get "10 mindful minutes" of their own.
