5. Auditions For Shay Youngblood's "talking Bones"

The third show of the Stained Glass Playhouse s 35th season will be Shay Youngblood s Talking Bones, directed by Alvin Tyndall. Auditions will be held at the Playhouse on both Monday, December 12 and Tuesday, December 13, from 7-9 pm each night. Performances will be February 3-5, 10-12, and 17-19. For more information, visit www.stainedglassplayhouse.org talking-bones Set in Ancestor s Books & Breakfast, a half empty bookstore in a small Southern town. Three generations of women -- Ruth, her daughter Baybay, and her granddaughter Eila -- hear the ancestors speak to them, through a broken hearing aid, whispers in the dark, and in talking bones. The ancestors bring a message about love, faith and family. Ruth, the matriarch, needs to settle her affairs before she dies. She interprets the voices she hears as those of the ancestors guiding her. Baybay, gaudy and slightly out of step, is looking for a way out of taking care of her mother. Eila tries to build a bridge between the two women while creating a place for new rituals and new beginnings. It s a complex journey for all, but in the end, the ancestors can be heard whispering -- joyous and hopeful. Roles: Ruth - in her early 60 s, a dignified, aristocratic woman who is trying to settle her affairs and family business before she dies. She hears voices through her hearing aid. Baybay - Ruth s daughter, in her early 40 s, glamorous and an artist (or wants to be). She is looking for a way out of a life trapped taking care of her mother, and often ignores or misinterprets the voices she hears. Eila - Baybay s daughter, in her early 20 s. She is looking for answers to control visions in her head, and someone to accompany her on her mission to build a bridge of understanding between two worlds. Mr. Fine - a businessman, in his 40 s, a seductive idea man. He feels his chance at success rests with BayBay and the caf she runs. Oz - a homeless man, mid to late 20 s, hip and usually moving to some inner hip-hop beat. He is looking for some place to belong. All characters are African-American. The Stained Glass Playhouse is located at 4401 Indiana Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 (in the old sanctuary of Marvin United Methodist Church).

At times like these, artists of all kinds have historically stepped forward, to use their gifts and talents to effect a change in awareness, and have a say in the world they leave behind for the next generation. This is our time. Join singer songwriter Julian Charles from 6-7pm for storytelling and songs of indigenous wisdom, inspired by a lifetime of travel.
