Like a caterpillar going through metamorphosis, it is our time to break out of the cocoon and emerge a beautiful butterfly that flys away. Or maybe an owlet finally taking flight- that flight is downtown bound. Our move will begin the January 1st 2017 and will be finished soon after. Sparr will perform solo on his first set and in the second set will be joined by Winston-Salem Symphony Assistant Concertmaster Rebecca Willie on violin. This is a special opportunity to get a taste of the electricity of Sparr s guitar compositions in an intimate and relaxed setting! Admission is free and open to the public. Vesna Pavlovi presents the Community Slide Show event at SECCA in conjunction with her Lost Art exhibit at the Hanes Art Gallery. This one-night performance features an open call to members of the community to bring, project, and share their personal collections of photographic slides in a gallery setting. Each projection offers a view to a personal history, with narratives as distinct as the individuals behind the pictures. Audience members are able to share their personal histories, as well as sort through and project slides available within the installation. For older audiences, these references to medium-specific sensory perceptions evoke nostalgia, and recollections associated with earlier modes of experiencing images. For younger audiences, they provide an introduction to the antiquated slide show experience. In this way, Lost Art explores the history and cultural significance of the slide format. This year we are giving parenting a try. Parents of preschoolers, children, youth, and even grandparents are invited to join us. This event will happen the first weekend of the new year at Bethany Baptist Church. Make plans to join us Friday evening, January 6th from 6:30pm-9:00pm and Saturday morning, January 7th from 8:30am-12:00pm. Dinner is provided Friday evening as well as a continental breakfast on Saturday morning. The total cost for the weekend is only $5 per person!! Deborah Harrell will be our event leader!
